Use fresh-picked or frozen blueberries to make this easy syrup, and enjoy fresh berry flavor in iced tea, cocktails and desserts. It’s a sweet taste of Southern summer, whatever the season.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup fresh or frozen blueberries
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water

Directions

  1. Combine the blueberries, sugar and water in a small saucepan and bring to a simmer over medium heat. Stir to dissolve the sugar and crush the blueberries gently. Simmer for 3 to 4 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool. Strain through a fine mesh sieve, pressing gently on the blueberries to extract all of the juices.
  2. Transfer unused syrup to a glass jar or bottle with a resealable top and refrigerate for up to 3 weeks. Makes about 1 cup.
