Savor the flavors of fall with fragrant Indian spices in each sip of this homemade chai concentrate. It’s easy and economical to make and store in the fridge. Mix some with water or milk for a spicy, delicious chai drink.

Ingredients

  • 24 cardamom pods
  • 1 (4-inch) piece of fresh ginger, sliced
  • 6 whole allspice
  • 4 star anise
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 16 whole black peppercorns
  • 8 cinnamon sticks
  • ¼ cup light brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 8 cups water
  • 8 Luzianne® Original Iced Tea Family Size Tea Bags

Directions

  1. Place cardamom, ginger, allspice, star anise, nutmeg, peppercorn, cinnamon sticks, sugar, vanilla extract, and water in a large saucepan. Cover and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and let simmer for 15 to 20 minutes.
  2. Remove from heat, add tea bags and allow to steep for 10 minutes. Strain the liquid into a large heat-resistant pitcher or container. Discard the spices and tea bags. Let cool completely, then store in a resealable container in the refrigerator.
  3. Make a serving of chai tea by combining equal amounts of the tea concentrate with hot or cold water or milk.
